Some people love it, some people don’t care, and others are just confused by it. Fashion - it’s that one thing that every woman thinks about but not everyone indulges in. When we talk about fashion in the U.S., what we tend to leave out of the conversation is a core focus on one’s personal style. While fashion can be about trends, for me personally, it’s more about the journey of expressing who I am with the things that I wear. And that is exactly what made me fall in love with this art. The inspiration, creativity, and magic that comes from ones personal brush with fashion is what I hope to impart to my readers. 

I have not always been into fashion or “fashionable,” thats for sure. I grew up in a small town and thought Abercrombie, American Eagle, and Hollister were fabulous. That was, up until I graduated from college and stepped foot into D.C. I went from being content with my ripped flare jeans and printed t-shirts, to scrambling to find more adult frocks that fit my new city lifestyle. But seeking bargain finds and quantity-over-quality pieces did me no favors in the end. In one to two years time, I found myself hating my new wardrobe and my new “style” that said nothing about my personality or what I really like. It was a colossal waste of time and money. But I did learn one of the most valuable lessons: stop buying clothes because they are cheap, and start buying well made, fitted pieces that I love and will be a staple in my closet for years to come. And the rest is history.

We hear so many ridiculous things about shopping from our friends and family while growing up: “buy your jeans one size too big because they will shrink,” “it’s fine if your shoes are loose if you wear bulky socks,” “get flats that are tight on your feet in case they stretch out,” or “don’t even bother with higher end department stores, they are so unaffordable!” etc. All of this “advice” is untrue, and definitely has steered us in the wrong direction when it comes to being a savvy shopper. You should buy only the items that fit you - both stylistically and physically. And you can find bargains anywhere as long as you are willing to search. This is the second most important lesson I heave learned on my fashion journey. 

Nothing gives me more of a rush than finding a piece I love and knowing that it’s going to be a part of my carefully curated collection for years to come. And if you don’t know what that feels like, I would love to help give you that experience. Don’t we all owe ourselves that level of confidence that comes with true self expression?

When we invest well made pieces that fit properly, and that are truly a reflection of who we are, we can build a sustainable and elegant wardrobe that withstands time. All fashion is accessible and everyone can have the closet of their dreams, you just need to know where to look and stay true to who you are.

My personal motto is to be “être élégant” - always elegant - when it comes to fashion, and you can never go wrong.
